Hello from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Today is my last day in Africa as I plan to fly to Dehli, India. Tanzania, Africa has been a really nice experience. I realized the scope and scale of poverty here, and the need for education. Many people want to go to school here but cant afford it. I have been asked for money by many people and havent really given money to many people because I have heard it is better to give to organizations that implement change..jpeg)
I hope that Tanzania and Africa in general can keep improving education so that people have the freedom to decide their future as we more or less do in the future. I hope to donate small amounts of money to African charitable organizations in the future.
My last few weeks in Tanzania were spent on the Island of Zanzibar where I started my experience in this country. On this trip, I was able to join 2 local fishermen who were going fishing. We set sail at 6 AM on a boat that was the length and width of a canoe with 2 out riggers extending off the gunwales (sides). The boat was all wood, and the captain, wearing only a ragged white shirt and soccer shirts poled our boat for 30 minutes to reach the sea channel. We rose our sail, which was patched white cloth, and the wind aided in our journey. The eastern sky looked grey but the sun shone through in streaks. There were at least 50 boats all in a line heading out with us to make the morning catch.
We exited the channel and soon were in the turqoise waters of the Indian Ocean which turned to a light royal blue. Our canoe sail boat caught the wind and we headed to an island 2 km off shore. The skies darkened and my chest tightened as winds picked up. It was iminent that a storm was quickly approaching. We lowered our sail and used it for warmth as the wind and rain were cold. I was scared, peeking my head like a turtle out from under the white sail looking at rain drops pound the light blue water. Soon the rain stopped and the weather improved. We sailed on and had a nice day fishing and snorkelling.
I am thankful for the experiences in Africa so far and am excited for my planned 2 and a half months in India.
Thanks for reading
